PRONOUNS & PLURALS
In English, singular or plural are used to refer to people or things.
In Warlpiri, singular, dual and plural are used to refer to people or things. Specific endings are added when referring to duals and plurals.
PRONOUNS & AUXILIARIES
In English, there are only singular or plural pronominal words:
I, you, he, she, it [singular]; they/them [plural].
In Warlpiri there are singular, dual and plural pronominals. This means that Warlpiri has different words for referring to 2 people vs. more than 2 people.
In addition, while English has one word for ‘we’, Warlpiri has 4 words that translate as ‘we’, depending on who is being referenced.
